Tennessee MBDA Business Center

 

The MMBC Continuum was recently awarded a new five-year grant to fund the Tennessee Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Business Center located in Memphis, TN. The Business Center, funded under the U. S. Department of Commerce, is the first and only center in the State of Tennessee. After successfully completing two grant cycles over the last nine years, The MMBC Continuum was successful in obtaining the newest grant award to continue operating the Center and supporting minority business growth.

 

The Tennessee Center in Memphis is part of a national network of centers across the United States.

The Tennessee MBDA Business Center is operated by The MMBC Continuum under the leadership of president and CEO, Jozelle Booker.

The MBDA Business Center is a program funded by the Minority Business Development Agency under the U.S. Department of Commerce. Each individual must meet the definition of “socially or economically disadvantaged individual to be eligible to receive Business Center Services. A socially disadvantaged individual is an individual who has been subjected to racial or ethnic prejudice or cultural bias because of the identity of the individual as a member of a group, without regard to any individual quality of the individual that is unrelated to that identity. 15 U.S.C. § 9501(15). An economically disadvantaged individual is an individual whose ability to compete in the free enterprise system has been impaired due to diminished capital and credit opportunities, as compared to others in the same line of business and competitive market areas, because of the identity of the individual as a member of a group, without regard to any individual quality of the individual that is unrelated to that identity. 15 U.S.C. § 9501(15).
